Apple Might Release iPhone Flip with This Cool Feature

iPhone Flip is said to come with a self-repairing display.

When the iPhone Flip finally arrives, it could flaunt one of the best displays seen so far. A speculated self-repairing panel might get easily get rid of those annoying marks and scratches on your screen.

According to a recent patent spotted by AppleInsider, iPhone Flip’s display could be utilized on many mobile devices, from laptops to smartwatches, or non-foldable devices. Here is what you need to know.

Apple’s Future is Foldable

In the recently spotted patent dubbed “Electronic Devices With Flexible Display Cover Layers,” the tech giant based in Cupertino details a screen made of two fixed panels linked by a flexible one in the middle, most likely using elastomer parts. How cool is that?

But, as intriguing as this patent’s details might sound, that’s not all. The best part is the mention of a “self-healing material” layer, which would spread the other layers and lower the appearance of dents and scratches in the more flexible area or why not, the whole display.

What to Expect

The patent also indicates using heat, light, or other stimuli to make the layer to repair instead. Using heat, the device could use a layer of heating elements running right through the panel. Such a thing will activate when the device is charging, for instance, or switched on manually by users.

Unfortunately, we don’t know yet how this system works, but it would surely be useful to have that layer on a foldable iPhone.

The patent doesn’t unveil how the device would fold either. While we’d expect the next iPhone, let’s say, to fold screen-in, similar to Galaxy Z Flip 5G, the patent mentions the panel being visible around the outside of the folded device. But such a thing was done before. We have the Huawei Mate Xs and Mate X that followed such a pattern.

We should, though, take the news with a pinch of salt. Patents are usually just for reserving ownership of a concept. There’s no way to confirm if any future device would use this system.
