Google Pixel 4a Roundup – News, Rumors, Features, Specs, And More

The Google Pixel series has become popular, especially among the Android enthusiasts. The company introduced its first mid-range model, the Google Pixel 3a, in 2019. The original model, the Google Pixel 3, was released a year before that, in 2018. But, as you know, the Google Pixel 4 smartphone is already out, and a mid-range model will soon follow. The Google Pixel 4a is the successor of the Pixel 3a, and its launch is significant for the company.

The original model, the Pixel 4, was not launched in all regions because of some security issues. The concerns come from the Project Soli-based radar feature that the company introduced. However, the upcoming Pixel 4a is not such a big secret. This mobile phone was leaked on the internet many times, and we have gathered all the info in one article. Read below to find out all there is to know about the upcoming mid-range smartphone from Google.

Google Pixel 4a News

Many people believed that the Pixel 4 would be launched during the I/O 2020 event, but, with the current pandemic situation, the event got canceled. Ever since last year, the audience has waited for the mid-range smartphone to launch; however, it did not happen. Things look even more unclear now, with the lockdown, and no one can tell when the mobile phone will be launched.

Thanks to several leaks in March, we now have more info about what to expect from the upcoming Pixel 4a model. Some of the leaks include more details than the others, such as the hardware specifications. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact the Google is not selling the Pixel 3 smartphone anymore. That means that the company is preparing to launch the Pixel 4a model.

Google Pixel 4a Release Date

As mentioned above, people were expecting to see the upcoming Pixel 4a at the I/O event. The I/O 2020 was scheduled on May 12; however, it got canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. There is still a possibility that Google will hold the conference online. However, things don’t look very promising at the moment. The upcoming mid-range device was the subject of many leaks, rumors, and speculations that we don’t see how the company will delay its release for much longer.

According to Nikkei Asia Review, the production of the Pixel 4a started in April. The whole production takes place in Vietnam, and it fits perfectly with the launch scheduled in May. But, we don’t know when the phone will be officially announced as even the digital event got canceled. However, the company might change their mind later in the year.

Google Pixel 4a Rumors

There have been many rumors concerning the upcoming mid-range smartphone; however, an image of the so-called Google device shows the retail packaging. This leak confirms that the Pixel 4a exists, and it is on its way to the market; it also confirmed its title. The retail packaging also confirms the phone’s dual-camera sensor. As you might already know, the original Pixel 4 features the same camera sensor. It is a crucial feature of the upcoming device because the first three Google Pixel models sported single-lens cameras.

Size & Design

We expect to Pixel 4a to feature a similar size and design as the Pixel 4. However, the mid-range smartphone will not feature the edge-to-edge display. That means that the bezels on the Pixel 4a are going to be thicker than in the original model. It is evident that the company is saving the edge-to-edge display feature for its flagships models, and we can’t blame them.

The material on the mid-range model will also be cheaper than the ones used on the Pixel 4. The upcoming Pixel 4a uses a polycarbonate body. However, this type of material should not surprise you. It is typically used on the low-cost devices.

As for the size of the upcoming smartphone, we expect it to measure 144.2 x 69.5 x 8.2mm. According to a few reports, the density of the Pixel 4a around the camera will measure 9mm. That means that the mid-range model will be as thin as the original flagship version.

A key feature highlighted on the Pixel 4 smartphone was the face recognition sensor. However, according to the rumors, we won’t see this feature on the Pixel 4a model. Instead, the upcoming smartphone will feature a fingerprint scanner located at the rear, similar to the Pixel 3a model.

In terms of the color variants, the same as the Pixel 3a, the upcoming mid-range model will come in two color variants: Just Black and Barely Blue. Of course, this information is base on the previously reported rumors, so please keep that in mind. We might also see a white variant launching; however, there is no confirmation yet. The official Google Pixel 4a cases were leaked as well, so there won’t be any problems in the accessories department.

A significant difference in design between the Pixel 4 and the next Pixel 4a model is the hole-punch camera on the front of the mid-range smartphone. This design is more similar to the Samsung flagships than the Pixel 4.

Display

In terms of the display, there are no leaks, only rumors. Looking into the rumor mill, we see a potential 5.81-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 and a display refresh rate of 60 Hz. However, if this rumor turns out to be accurate, it means that the Pixel 4a will not be as thin as reported above. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait that long until the official product release.

Cameras

Camera-wise, the upcoming mid-range smartphone from Google is still a mystery. According to the retail packaging leak, the next model will feature a dual-camera sensor. However, it looks like the upcoming smartphone will feature a single-lens rear camera coupled with 12.2 MP. As much as the camera features disappoint, it was also expected. In the end, this is just a mid-range device, not a flagship. The front-facing camera is said to feature 8 MP.

Other features of Google Pixel 4a

Under the hood, the Pixels 4a is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 730 processor coupled with 4G LTE support.  The upcoming mobile phone is believed to feature 6GB RAM coupled with either 64GB or 128GB storage as an option. The Pixel 4a won’t sport a microSD card slot. In comparison to the Pixel 3a, the upcoming Pixel 4a will feature a UFS 2.1 flash storage.

This change will improve the phone’s read and write speeds, something its predecessor lacked. The company’s decision to increase the storage size is well welcomed, especially if we won’t see a Pixel 4a XL model. Another feature that will come with the Pixel 4a is the eSim support.

In terms of the batter, we don’t expect to see many changes in this category. The Pixel 4a is reported to be fueled by a 3,080 mAh battery. The phone is expected to feature 18W fast charging support coupled with the USB Power Delivery 2.0. Google Pixel 4a is said to feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. Its predecessor also featured a headphone jack. However, both of the flagship models, Pixel 4 and Pixel 3, don’t have this feature. Yet, we will found out everything once the product reaches the market.
