Microsoft has been hard at work on the Xbox brand in recent months, and a new change will please many owners of Xbox One and Apple iPhones. An update for the iOS version of the Xbox One will come with a remote play feature.
The feature will offer the opportunity to stream Xbox One games on your iPhone, which is a great perk for gamers who want to relax after a hard day of work without the need t sit in front of the TV.
Requires an Xbox console
Since the new function relies on the presence of an Xbox One console to work, it doesn’t clash with Apple’s rules about cloud gaming. Users will have the option to access their console over a Wi-Fi or mobile data collection, and it can be used without being at home.
Other new perks include the ability to download and share short videos and screenshots made on the Xbox One or the upcoming Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, while also granting access to administrative options like storage space management.
Faster and better
Performance has been an important focus for Microsoft, and both the Android and the iOS version of the Xbox App are faster and smoother. They also come with a revamped user interface, which mirrors some of the changes that will be introduced with the next generation of Xbox consoles, which will also sport a revamped dashboard.
However, cloud gaming remains limited on Apple’s platform for now. While the Cupertino giant has proposed a potential solution, companies who wish to offer cloud gaming services would need to submit each game as a separate app, a process that would be time-consuming and bring unnecessary complications for the maintenance process.
The updated version of the Xbox app is available on TestFlight and should be released soon on the App Store.
