Microsoft Challenges Apple With Surface Duo Release Date

Microsoft Is preparing to release the Surface Duo, and the market is quite interested in the new device, as it was the target of extensive rumors since it was announced in October 2019.

The Redmond giant seems to be quite pleased with how the device turned out and has chosen a daring announcement day of September 10. Industry sources argue that Apple will also reveal the next generation of iPhone devices between 8 and 15 September, which means that the two rivals will compete for attention on the same week

A new player

Samsung preferred to launch the Galaxy Note range in September in the past, but in recent years the Korean company decided to hold the Samsung Unpacked event in August. It can be argued that the shift allowed Samsung to bathe the Note range in the limelight without major distractions.

The radical design of the Surface Duo makes it seem like a breath of fresh air in a market where most smartphones tend to get iterative design choices, but some hot rumors argue that the new iPhone range will come with a fresh redesign, despite Apple’s best effort to keep the change a secret.

Stiff competition

While the Surface Duo does look quite attractive, it will face stiff competition from Apple as most analysts agree that the iPhone 12 models will be faster and more affordable. Recent leaks note that the A14 Bionic chip is 50% faster in comparison to the previous generation, which beats the Snapdragon 865.

The Surface Duo is powered by a Snapdragon 855, which is already weaker than the 865. It will also be interesting to see how Microsoft manages to adapt the use of Android on two individual panels, even if they are linked.

With a price tag of $1399 for the base model, Microsoft aims quite high, and only time will tell if it lands the shot successfully.
