This is the second year in a row when PlayStation will miss E3, much to the disappointment of gamers all around the world.
The official reason
Playstation stated that they do not believe that the vision for the event is adequate for what they have planned for the current year. However, they will be attending ‘hundreds’ of consumer events to introduce their following gaming console alongside a roster of upcoming games.
A spokesperson from Sony Interactive Entertainment said that the company he is representing has made a thorough evaluation that led them to make such an unfavorable decision, firmly accentuating the fact that the event simply isn’t the right venue for what they are focusing on at the moment.
“We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans,” the spokesperson added
Saying goodbye to tradition?
E3 was the standard place for the unveiling of future releases from Sony Interactive Entertainment ever since its beginning back in 1995 when it launched the original PlayStation in the United States.
However, conflicts of interest and discordances between the organizers of the event alongside a sight discrepancy between Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vision and the industry might put an end to Sony’s attendance at E3.
