Lionsgate and Millennium Media’s “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” is set to take the No. 1 spot on the domestic box office this weekend.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard was able to top the domestic box office by grossing $3 million from 3,331 theaters on Friday. The film also earned an estimated $10 million this weekend and $15 million across its first five days in theatres. This means the film is set to end A Quiet Place Part II ‘s three week run at the top of the weekend box office The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard will also be competing with the highly anticipated Fast & Furious 9 once it releases next week.
The movie’s stars reprise their roles with Ryan Reynolds as professional bodyguard Michael Bryce and Samuel L. Jackson as notorious hitman Darius Kincaid. Selma Hayek also returns as Darius’ wife and is the main focus of the movie this time around. The sequel also features many phenomenal actors such as Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman, Richard E. Grant and Frank Grillo.
The film released as a sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard which released back in August 2017. The first movie earned a $21 million opening and grossed $176 million globally. This new film hasn’t seen the same commercial success as of yet, but this could be due to the reduced budget of $50 million. The film released just as capacity restrictions were lifted in major U.S theatres which should help boost its performance further.
The sequel has received mixed reviews so far with critics giving it a measly 25% Rotten Tomatoes rating. On the other hand, people seem to be enjoying the film which helped to achieve a 79% rotten tomatoes audience score. Nonetheless, if action-comedy films are your thing, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard might be worth checking out.
