With Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s arrival so close, Xbox brings three Yakuza titles for free this weekend for those with Xbox Live Gold.

After initially struggling to set its footing in the west, Sega has succeeded in turning things around in the last years, thanks to the Yakuza series. The latest entry to the series will be released soon, and now Xbox has chosen to add three of the games in the franchise free.

But there’s a catch. You must be an Xbox Live Gold member. Here is what you need to know.

Free Yakuza Games: What to Expect

Fans who haven’t experience the Yakuza series yet or who have missed out on a few games can now potentially use the free weekend and explore the Yakuza universe. The Yakuza titles that Xbox Live Gold members can freely download and enjoy between October 1 and October 4 are Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2.

Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2 are considered more modern-day, some current-gen remakes of the first two praised games in the series, which initially premiered in the mid-2000s on the PS2.

As for Yakuza 0, this is a series prequel revealing the origin stories of series mainstays Majima Goro and Kazuma Kiryu, released back in 2015.

All three of these Yakuza titles have succeeded in rating highly among fans and critics, reaching 80 % to 90 %+ on Metacritic. The games are globally praised for having an intriguing style that’s all Yakuza’s own, mixing riveting dramatic stories, combat, and bizarre side tasks that help lose a bit the tense atmosphere the games can have.

There is also an Xbox Game Pass announcement video that you can watch below.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is expected to arrive for PS4, Xbox One, and PC users. An Xbox Series X/S variant will be released on November 10, with the PS5 version following the next year, on March 2.
